Tessa Alexander

Born in Trinidad, Tessa has always enjoyed creative expression, and can remember wanting to be an artist since childhood. Tessa has an MFA in Cultural Studies, and earned her associates degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising at the International Academy of Design and Technology. She produced her own label for close to a decade, and during that time represented Trinidad and Tobago at the Pret a Porter and Igedo fashion weeks; she also worked on several costuming and design projects including “Jean and Dinah”, earning a nomination for best costuming at the Cacique awards. Tessa has worked in oils, ink, conté and graphite, but is primarily a water colourist. She feels the colour and textures capture the Caribbean essence, while also appreciating its suitability to tropical conditions; fluid, quick drying, and environmentally friendly. She often adds elements of collage (handmade papers and/or newspaper clippings) to many pieces, resulting in an almost three- dimensional appearance.
