Ramon Navarro was born and raised in Trinidad and in his formative years dabbled in many areas of art. However, one of the greatest influences on his developing style of painting was a trip he made to Paris as a young man. Viewing major works by famous painters hanging in the Louvre and having the opportunity to spend hours studying these paintings was a dream come true for the young artist. In his earlier work, the effect that these great European Masters had on his style was obvious. Navarro’s works became known for their luminescent quality, his oils practically glowing on the canvases, his subjects portraying an idealistic and somewhat romantic view of life.
